I recently purchased this laptop from compusa (couldn't resist that price, and had been meaning to purchase a new laptop anyway). I have a heavy gamer and was wondering what I could possibly upgrade on this laptop to make it run noticeably faster while gaming.

Can the cpu (t2250 cd) be upgraded to a c2d cpu (such as t7200)? and would this give me a significant performance boost? Or would overclocking be just as effective? (If so, what program do u recommend to oc?)

I already upgraded the ram to 2 gigs, which made a considerable difference.

I'm considering purchasing an 80gig 7200 rpm and making it my primary hdd. Would that really help?

The gpu included is the 7600 go. I have heard it is impossible to upgrade this, and I just wanted some confirmation.

And finally, would removing vista and installing xp make a huge difference? The computer would definitely run faster, but how much of a difference would this make as far as gaming is concerned?

Thank you to anyone who can help!

You cannot upgrade your GPU, and you can't overclock your CPU. Going from Vista to XP would be a HUGE difference for gaming as Nvidia's Vista drivers a HORRIBLE. It's as if they forget that the Geforce Go 7000 series exist it's pitiful.

Going from a 5400RPM hard drive to a 7200RPM hard drive will show a very marginal performance increase if any depending on the particular drive. The CPU can be upgraded but it will cost you more than it's worth, and taking apart the dv9000 isn't for the faint of heart.

    Thanks for the quick reply!

That's unfortunate about the cpu and gpu, but I'm definitely upgrading to XP from vista.

Where'd you get this wild and crazy idea from?

While it's not exactly easy to find a compatible solution for his exact notebook, it is no where near as impossible as you make it out to be.

OP, try clockgen or setfsb for you cpu and rivatuner for you gpu to get more ooopmh out of them.

Limits are limits...and the parts have a limit. You try to break the FSB and you'll probably end up breaking the laptop.

Lol did you post make any sense? Or have anything to do with the question at hand?

Not once did I say whether it was good or bad to OC your laptop, so idk where ur coming up with this stuff about breaking ur laptop by breaking the fsb.

I simply stated that laptop cpus can in fact be OCed, not said it was a good thing to do...

What good is overclocking the cpu if your notebook is a brick?

    Hello:

I have this laptop and am putting a core duo 2 in mine next week. I didn't go with the t7200 there to expensive for what they are to me.
I ordered the t5600 Not a huge increase from the reg core duo in it. But its a core duo 2, And for my reasons it works best. I am doing this because I wanted to upgrade my daughters Toshiba L35 with a Celeron M 1.6 in it to the old one from this system. I have had the L35 Running great with the Core duo From this HP for a few days. Works great.
Now The toshiba was fairly easy to take apart and install the CPU. But the HP I have in a box in parts now waiting for the core 2, It is much more complicated Todissemble!

I just hope I don't forget anything by the time I get the new cpu.

By the way the gpu is onboard (built on the motherboard) no upgrading that.
