Did you install the Intel Matrix Storage application/drivers? You might need those in order to make it PnP.
-
ye i thougth about that one too.. but i get an error when installing it (look attatchment).
downloaded it from the win7 x64 download area of asus.com :/
also got that one when i tried it with the vista driver.Attached Files:

Alright, can you go into the device manager and see if there are any yellow bangs near devices? Might need to install SATA drivers or chipset drivers still...actually, try updating both.
-
well there is one with a yellow icon:
base system device
i have no clue what it is. but when i click update driver "couldnt find any driver". -
If the driver isn't available Windows will search for it using it's massive database. If that search yields no positive results, you will have to get if from the manufacturers website. From what I know of the feature, your port shouldn't matter. -
i got a raidsonic icybox external sata storage with my old laptop hdd inside.
And as i cannot install the sata controller, i guess thats the reason why plug & play doesnt work with esata?
Which device do u mean?
@edit: there are no drivers frm the manufactur :/ .. thats the one i bought:

When you plug in the esata disk, right-click my computer in start nmenu and choose managa...go to disk management and you'll see the disk there. Choose "import foreign disk" and you're done. I had to do this in XP every time, Vista and 7 did make it plug&play.

This is a common problem. You actually need to either enable AHCI or Intel RAID in the BIOS before hot-swapping esata drives.
With older OS's it seems like you can only turn on/off AHCI just as you're about to re-install windows. With windows 7 I'm not fully sure, here's a thread discussing it here.
I turned on AHCI only before installing windows 7 so I can't comment on changing the setting after the OS has been installed.
Hope that helps. -
@platinum: thank will read that topic when i´m at home.
@edit: i dont find any ahci option in bios :x -
The option may be listed near RAID settings or something in the BIOS, it should be there.
Another thing though to get you through for now, you can plug in your esata drive when your PC is on, and go to Computer - Manage - Disk Management. Then go to the Action menu and select rescan disks.
This will let you plug in the drive while your PC is on, but not remove it (unless you can eject it in My Computer).
You can also make a batch file to rescan disks if you want a quick shortcut to it:
echo rescan>rescan.txt & diskpart /s rescan.txt -
hm i thoiught i didnt find it in disk managment but i wil lgive it a try when i´m at home
-
okay works thanks
also thanks for the batch file (havent tried it yet but i guess it works)
-
you should also be able to remove it through "safely remove hardware" While i don't use this feature for external USB drives which i've set to "optimize for fast removal" i'd still advise it for devices connected through eSATA. You don't want corrupt data/sectors -
but the .bat always makes a rescan.txt , how can i disable that?
-
errrrr.....que?
-
You could add a second line to the batch file to delete this file after it's done:
del rescan.txt
e-sata as plug & play ?
