Hi all, I have a motherboard which I want to salvage, to use it as desktop, but it will not power up without display screen connected to the edp port. I'm wondering if there's such an adapter to connect my external monitor directly to the edp port on motherboard.

So far I've only seen the opposite way, which is converting laptop display to external monitor. Not sure if I can use that adapter board to my purpose. Help anyone can help, thanks.

This is a bit tricky. There is no adapter that I know of. You need to figure out some way to convert eDP to a regular displayport and then use a DP to HDMI adapter. Electrically the display signal is compatible between eDP and DP. I had a project a year and a half ago where I went from DP to eDP along with using signals from the LVDS to fully support the eDP panel. Unfortunately I lost what little documentation I kept and I don't remember the details off the top of my head.

Maybe what you just need to do is look at the eDP pinout and figure out how to trick the BIOS into thinking there is a panel connected. Alternatively, just buy an eDP panel of your choice to use as a secondary display for your desktop.

Too bad, but this is the reverse way of it, from eDP to DP, not sure will that helps.

Yeah someone told me that actually I only need the display inverter to connect to the mobo, but I'm thinking if I'm buying the inverter only, why not I just buy the whole set with screen, but actually that's what I'm trying to avoid, as my room is quite packed now actually, lol

By the problem is, I'm converting it to desktop, wont look nice if I use laptop panel, and there's no panel that can beat my current 19" external monitor, lol
