So I'd like to use an eGPU(i just have a spare GTX 580 sitting here) with my Clevo D901C(via express card) and internally it has a single nvidia 9800m GTX. Now everyone tells me i need optimus and an intel iGPU to use this but I recall once using my desktop with a 9600 GT and a GTX 550ti and one day i accidentally plugged my LCD into the 9600 GT but when i played games it didn't make a difference and it still displayed to the 9600 while rendering on the 550 ti. So someone told me this is because the nvidia drivers will render games on the most powerful present(non sli ofc) and display goes where ever... So if this is the case could I use an eGPU like the GTX 580 with my D901C and still use my internal 1920x1200 LCD?
Thanks

eGPU is a work in progress it's not something one would use on daily basis. All eGPU is experimental not for real time usage. I have not fully heard any that says eGPU is the next in line.
