    Since he said expansion port, I'm gonna assume this is HP?

    Basically that port allows for a port replicator; i.e. a Dock

    Yup, the HP notebooks are one of the few consumer notebooks to actually feature a docking solution that works. Basically, you can get a docking station for the notebook that gives you a one-cable way to hook up power, a few USB ports, DVI/VGA, audio, and maybe eSATA to the notebook all at once.

    It won't let you install more RAM or upgrade the GPU or anything like that. But its a really convenient way to hook your notebook up to all your stuff on the desk.
