The headin give a first idea, this is what happened:

I was moving files from my 1GB Maxtor (Seagate inside) drive and at one point TerraCopy came up with an error - drive not found.

It wasn't in explorer - then I noticed the green light was off.

Checked the cables, nothing wrong, moved the power plug to a working socket - I get no reaction from the drive.
(I.ee it doesn't seem to get any electricity)

I can open the external enclosure, but there is a metal internal one, I can't get past that one, I don't have a screwdriver for some very flat screews - mine don't grip.

What could have hppened, and how do I get my data back?
