Can any one recommend a a external hard drive about 60 gb, that can be used on my LG LW60 notebook, so i can save all my video editing onto the external HD, and leave the computors internal HD alone.
Also do i require any other hardware or software to set this up

    Sweet, a LG LW60 :D

All you need is a 3.5" HD, a 160gb 7200rpm goes for under $150~ CDN($110~ USD) I believe, then buy an 3.5" external case for another $20, and you are all set. Place HD into case, put connections in, connect to laptop via USB 2.0 or firewire and you're all set! Just plug and play!

Brands is your choice - my favourite HD brands are Hitachi, Samsung and Seagate. I like Vantec's external enclosure's - they are pretty cool looking :p

    No prob :D

You can always get a 10000rpm Raptor but perhaps you may need a case with a fan - those things get toasty!

You can get do one with a notebook drive as well if you need to be a little more portable.

I just got a Western Digital 320G SATA 7200RPM internal (I'm actually using it with a desktop, but you can get an enclosure cheap for external use) for 140 bucks from zipzoomfly.com

I've heard WD and Seagate are very dependable brands. Seen some people have problems with Maxtor, but I really doubt there's a huge difference in quality.

    Here's the link

LaCie also has a line of "Mobile" external drives. I haven't read much about these, but they look slick and compact. These are available from 40GB to 100GB.

I bought an aluminum, external USB powered 2.5" hard drive enclosure at newegg. I stuck my old laptops hard drive in there - there you go, an external hard drive ;)

Any 3.5" 7200rpm desktop hard drive connected via firewire (USB2 uses the CPU) will give the fastest speed and lowest CPU usage with a laptop, potentially critical during video editing where you want as much horsepower as possible.

For 1.8" and 2.5", they are USB bus powered but for 3.5" and up, most of them have AC adapters

Yep, what Coriolis said. 1.8 to 2.5 inch HDD's can be USB powered, but for a 3.5 you're going to need an AC plug.
