I apologize for my ignorance, but I have searched the internet and I can't figure out what exactly I need. I would like to get an external enclosure that will fit the dvd drive out of Dell 700m so I can use the drive on another computer connected through usb. I don't know much about the different connection types there are so I don't want to buy the wrong one. Could anyone point me in the right direction for the right enclosure. I have popped the dvd drive out and on the back it says TEAC DV-28E, model ver. - CE1 along with other numbers that I don't know what they are. I don't know if that information helps at all and I hate to be so ignorant, but any help someone could give me would be greatly appreciated. Thank you

Why exactly do you want to use the dell drive? Why not just get an enclosure with a real dvd burner? Both devices will require external power but the real dvd burner will be many times faster and probably much much cheap then whatever specialty enclosure you may find to fit the dell drive.

Thanks for the response. I was just hoping to use the drive from the 700m because I have it and was hoping I could just get a small enclosure that would make it pretty portable. But you say i would need to get a specialty enclosure? I didn't know that was the case.

Get yourself a nice 5.25" enclosure and slap a 20 dollar 20x DVD burner in there. -
Thanks...I had looked around for an enclosure that would work and didn't find one so I thought I would post here just to see if anyone knew of something that would work. Looks like there isn't so I will do as you suggest and get the 5.25 enclosure and dvd burner. Thanks for the advice
