if i were to install all of my games, fear, prey, oblivion, on an external hard drive would i see a decreased performanc than if i were to have them installed on my internal hard drive? and would it be a noticeable difference?

Not really. I played Far Cry, Call of Duty, and Half Life 2 on my external HD on my laptop. I had the HD hooked up through USB. I didn't see any performance difference. Hope that helps.

Mark, please correct me if I'm wrong. I beleive that if your external hard drive was faster than your internal hard drive; say 7200 rpm vs. 4200 rpm, you would feel the difference in performance. Plus your notebook would be lighter when using other applications. When you're not gaming, unplug the external hard drive.
Sounds like a good idea to me.
