    For over a week i have had this problem , I have a buffalo 1tb 3.5 , and a WD 500gb 2.5 for usb 2.0 , in windows 7 x64

When i plug the drives in the usb port i hear the connection bong , but no drive shows up in computer , but in disk management it is there it just does not nave a drive letter.

I can add a drive letter and then the drive works fine, I can even unplug it and re-connect and it works, but for some reason it will suddenly just stop being recognized.

I have 2x 8gb usb flash drives and they work fine, the problem is only affecting my external hdd`s

I have tried uninstalling the usb controllers in device manger , but it does not help.

If i plug a non-responding drive into my destop it is detected fine, so it looks like a software problem.

A have done full virus and spyware scans and have found nothing.

    What is going on?

    Thanks for any help.
