I've got a lenovo x61 in transit, which has no optical drive in it. In order to install all my programs I'll need another method.
From another suggestion on the lenovo board, i was hoping to order a USB to IDE cable off of ebay (where some of them run as low as $5) but i noticed that none of them explicitly state they're compatible with Vista.
Has anyone had experience with this?

I figured if I got one of these cables, then i could swap between cd rom when i needed to load things and a spare hard drive when i need to backup things. I won't be using these two things constantly which stops me from buying an external hard drive and an external cd rom drive alltogether.
I've also looked at just the enclosure.. however at about 6x the price of the cable, the pretty looking box doesn't seem worth it. and they're not as versatile.

Curious if anyone else has been in the same boat and found a cost effective solution.
