Just wondering if anyone has recommendations for an external usb dvd burner to use with my laptop and occassionally my desktop, or models I should definitely avoid. Thanks...

External USB burners are quite resilient - take the cheap one that you can find. Amazon offers many brands and styles. Just pick one.

    cheers ...

Sony. These are the only spec compliant external slim drives since it comes with its own PSU.

If you insist on a spec-violating drive, then you should also get an USB hub with own power supply.

I just bought a cheap enclosure off ebay ($20?) and put in my own spare notebook dvd drive, so much cheaper and have a pretty good external dvd burner :D

Same thing I did. Took my Blu-ray burner and made it a slot load external. Works well. Allowed me to put in a third HDD too. But I also have the Samsung as well. Got it for use with my M11x before I removed the M17x drive.
