You have the AMD version right, then it will be 200 pin DDR400MHz(PC 3200)SODIMM.

are you sure because I asked compaq tech support and they said it only uses PC2700 DDR333 ram but I saw here that people installed PC3200 DDR400 ram so who is correct? PC3200 DDR 400 wont mess up my computer?

Well, the tech support people only read from what they are told and since HP only uses DDR333 on all of their AMD based laptops, they just give the blanket answer. In AMD based systems, it is the cpu which controls the memory not the chipset and since all new AMD cpu's(Turion64, Athlon64, Sempron) support DDR400 memory, the v2000z should most definately be capable of handling it. AMD also lists the specifications listed on their website, check it out if you want more confirmation.

You can use DDR400 memory and I cannot see any reason why people on these boards would lie for such a thing if it werent true. There are also screen shots available in the HP/Copmaq section by people who have upgraded to DDR400 memory. Check those out and make your own decision.

One more thing if you do want to use DDR400 then be sure to remove the existing DDR333 memory. Since pairing memory of 2 different speeds will result in DDR400 module running at the speed of the slower module.

I do not know why you are so scared!! Did you atleast go thru V2000z review thread? I myself use DDR400 corsair, but OCZ DDR400 RAM is even faster with CAS 2.5( this is also being use by our members and you can see snapshots of cpuz for the same).

So buy OCZ DDR400 CAS 2.5 RAM. It is going very cheap on newegg(512MB for $40)

OCZ says 2.5 but it runs at cas3 like eveyr other brand.

IMO buy the corsair value select 1gb 3200 so-dimm at monarch computers. best/cheapest ram for the dollar.

Taken from AMD's website: "As important as the memory bus's width is the speed at which it runs. All AMD Opteron processors and AMD Athlon 64 processors support up to DDR400 memory, which is becoming one of the most widely available memory specifications†. Running at 200 MHz (with an effective 400 MHz data rate), DDR400, also referred to as PC3200, delivers 3.2 GBps per channel. A dual-channel controller populated with DDR400 modules yields up to 6.4 GBps of bandwidth for its host processor."

alexjl, please do not try to post wrong information. Please read the posts first which has clear information before posting guessed information. It confuses people.

We have even snapshots with OCZ RAM running at CAS 2.5 by default.

As I mentioned above please check my review and it has all the info and snapshots. And here is that specific post.
