Fastest cpu on a 17" is the SAGER NP9262 (Clevo D900C). It supports up to X6800 (2.93ghz) cpu
Fastest for 15" is the Asus C90S. Supports up to the E6700
Both of these use desktop cpus.

I do believe the fastest mobile processor you can get in a 15" machine is currently the X9000. I don't think that's available in anything other than boutique gaming notebooks, though.

The fastest memory you can get is 800MHz DDR2, but I still haven't seen a normal laptop that'll run that at full speed; for Intel machines I am sure that there is absolutely no support for anything faster than 667MHz DDR2.

I think the 800MHz DDR2 sticks are for the likes of the rebranded Clevos with desktop processors.

EDIT: You can get a Q6600 in some boutique machines too. Whether that's faster than an X6800 depends on what you do.

It depends on what you do. In applications that can make full use of the four cores, you'll see a substantial performance increase in the Q6600 over the X6800. But for single threaded, or not very well implemented multi-threaded apps, the X6800 may be better.

The Sager does support the fastest CPU in a laptop, the E8400 (3.0 Ghz, 1333:FSB) faster than the X6800, but not overclockable.

For your usage something like 2.8GHz Core 2 Duo would be overkill. You could do all of that and have plenty of power to spare with a 2.0GHz Core 2 Duo like a T8300/T7300 or similar.

Yeah, I agree with Moon Angel. I get by just fine on a a T2250 Core Duo 1.73 for tasks like those. You honestly wouldn't feel much of a difference between a 2.0 Core 2 Duo and whatever else is above it.
