hello, yesterday i was connecting something to my laptop and i accidently stuck my finger in the ethernet socket, feeling a small electrical discharge. i tested it afterwards and it wasn't damaged, but later i got my first blue screen while using the laptop, i wonder if it could have anything with what i did, could i have damaged the motherboard or something? :(

What did the bluescreen say? Should be a 9 digit error code. Something like 0x000000000

Uhh...don't stick your finger in the ethernet port?

Google your BSOD error code as stated above.

Ethernet should not shock you. It does not have enough power. Make sure your computer is correctly grounded.

0x0000000A is typical a hardware issue or incompatible driver. Did you do anything else except stick your finger in the ethernet port? New mouse, usb stick, external hard disk, or updated a driver?

What may have happened is he had a static charge himself and it discharged to a ground through the ethernet port. Here's hoping that it didn't take any circuitry with it.

    It's probably just coincidence.
If it's the first time, I really wouldn't worry too much (it is Windows after all).

You cant really know for sure. Pitabred is a bit of a genius around these parts, I can vouch for what he says. I shocked myself on my old laptop after having a bit of charge on myself. We have our entire floor covered in fluffy carpets <3 here.

I don't think you would have taken anything with the discharge. Just check the RAM and make sure it's working properly. Common BSOD is a RAM issue, hopefully you didn't blow one of your sticks, or both.

How long after did you get the BSOD?

But he also said that was the first and nothing since. I've belive it actually has nothing to do with 'the finger in ethernet port' :D
