    hi,

    I've just bought a Compaq 6730s with a (socket P) Celeron M 575 on GL40 chipset (that I think supports only 667 fsb).

In the future, can I upgrade the cpu with a dual core processor ? a 800mhz cpu will run on a 667mhz bus?

    thank you very much :D

Assuming the BIOS supports the new CPU it will run. An 800MHz FSB CPU will run on your chipset, although it will do it at a reduced frequency (667MHz) and thus lower the actual speed the CPU will run. E.g. CPU w/ 800MHz FSB, 10x multiplier = 2GHz, but at reduced FSB, 166*10 = 1.66GHz. Also, if you're interested, I have a T5450 sitting at here that I'm looking to sell.

It should. The GL40 does support a bus speed of 266MHz. The main thing is BIOS Support, which shouldn't be a problem either. A.T. this, all the 3 variants of the notebook (PM45/GM45/GL40) are using the same BIOS. So, support for Core 2 Duos should be there. You could try out a P8400/T9400, etc down the line, but I am not sure if it'll work !!

    last question :

    I've an 'old' T5250 (1,5GHz 667) core 2 duo.

It's better I upgrade from celeron 2,0ghz to T5250 or not?
I'm not interesting in performance but I think the core duo it's more powerful and, with speedstep technology, runs more cooler.

Then, on hp notebooks (mine is 6730s) there are warranty labels internally ?

    thanks

now I'm reading this (ww.intel.com/Assets/PDF/datasheet/320122.pdf) from Intel and seems that GL-40 chip supports only Celeron and "Intel® CoreTM 2 Duo Processor based Intel® Celeron Processor and Intel® Pentium Processor" ! what they are?

T5250 is a Core 2 Duo not a pentium dual core!

GL40 chipset (montevina) supports only celerons and pentiums dual core or even core 2 duo ?

    thanks

Ok. Now the previous gen chipset - GL960 was also stated to support only Celeron and PDCs at a FSB 533MHz. But users had upgraded their GL960 notebooks all the way to the X9000 (FSB: 800MHz), but had the memory support capped to 3GB.

So, if this chipset is anything like the previous one, it should support a C2D at its full FSB (of upto 1066MHz). The thing to worry about is BIOS Support, and your notebook is new, and only has the initial BIOS version available without any enhancements.

If it doesn't void the warranty (to swap the CPU), try it out. It is gonna be "hit n trial". Notebook prices being so competitive, most users go for the GM/PM45 notebooks with pre-installed OEM Core 2 Duos....

BUT, I've heard of one user reporting a successful upgrade to the T9400 on a GL40 notebook, but without any screenshots, and *proof* of the upgrade.

I have installed a T5750 and a T7500 on my GL40, both are working, the T7500 is more powerful and runs cooler. Next try would be a T7700/T7800or even T9300, but they are not really cheap...T7500 is very powerful!
