I have a lenovo 3000 n100 that gets craptastic battery life. When I first got it the battery would run for about 1.75 hours. After significant tweaking with the vista power management console and uninstalling of crap software I've managed to improve that to about 2.25 hours. But now I seem to have exhausted what vista can do. Is there any software available that has a more extensive selection of power saving tweaks available for free?

Another option I have been consitering is replacing my underperforming pentium t2060 with a proper core duo since they seem to have more power saving options and the same tdp rating. Does anyone know how much of a difference this would make, if any?

Have a read of this thread. I would suggest you contribute to that other thread so it gets back up nearer the top of the pile since it includes some useful discussion.

I wouldn't blame your CPU until you are confident about what it won't do.
