ok i dont now if this is the right place to ask my question but i dont see anywhere else, actualy it is not really a question but more that i want to have some advice

how long will this configuration last ?

    tecra (spec)
    2.00 GHz pentium M
1 GB RAM (good brand dont know yet)
40 to 60 GB hard (dont really need a lot of space)
    geforce 6600 128 MO GPU

i am considering the toshiba tecra tablet pc but with all those new technologie i am wondering how long will this laptop last and how well will it performe in the next 3 or 4 year...
i dont reallly need a lot of computing power,at least i think ,i am a student in EE and the most demanding task will be mathematica, maple and some circuit simulation software. and i allready have a desktop so very demanding task can be done there. All i want from the laptop is it to last 3 to 4 year without any lag or so,is to be fully usable in that periode of time.
for the GPU i dont really plan the play a lot nor at the best performance ever, in fact it is just to be sure that vista will run smooth...

That'd probably last you a while just fine.

However, if you'd rather try for something else, you could fill out the FAQ and post it in the What Notebook Should I Buy forums.

I'd prefer a Lenovo over any other laptop, if you've got the money, and they fit your requirements, I'd go for a ThinkPad over anything else. Simply because they just have a neigh unparalleled build quality.

Lenovo does have a Tablet Line, though they don't have as powerful of a GPU, and I believe they're 12 inchers instead of 14 inchers.

    sorry for the double post
yea, thinkpad said to be very good in what to come to buld quality but for performance..., plus it seem that since lenovo are taking care of teh thinkpad line there far less good than before
also i am not really a traveling warrior , so for the thinkpad it is like buying for a build quality i dont really need and not the performance that i need more...
i really need the asus... asus please.....

Since Lenovo took over the Thinkpad line the quality is still just as good.

Regardless of if you travel a lot or not, build quality is always a good thing.

    Thinkpads perform extremely well.

Also, if you don't travel very often, why are you getting a Tablet?

Tablets are easier to use on flights.

Toshiba's notebooks have a pretty mediocre build quality as far as I've seen.

Do you think you could fill out the FAQ? We could probably find you omething good.

Yes, Toshiba's newer models have horrible build quality. Not so much the tecras, but the Satellites are just plain crud. My friend bought the 14" Toshiba Satellite, I think it's the M60 or M50 or something? Anyways, it's bending all over the place, creaks like an old rocking chair and the screen is so dim it makes me want to cry. I believe my Z70Va's matte screen can be considered brighter and more vivid than that thing's screen and it has a glossy~!!!

If I'm not mistaken the Tecras are Toshiba's business line, so they should be better, but who knows.

I'm sure all the hardware will outlast the body on that notebook, but if you treat her right, she'll last you for YEARS. I would say maybe 4-5 years if software incompabilities don't get in the way.

    Cheers,
    Mike
