im gonna buy the new gateway gaming laptop thats coming out in the 14th at bestbuy. The laptop is great and all but i find the cpu rather lower than my expectation(2.26 duo core). Im new in buying laptops so my question is right after i buy that lappy can i upgrade the cpu to maybe 2.53 right there at best buy? and how much would it cost? Any advice would help also![]()

Even if you upgrade the P8400 to a T9400 or P9500, you won't see much of an increase in overall performance, except in performance benchmarks and CPU-intensive tasks. If you can get a good price for the P8400, then you may consider an upgrade, but it may void your warranty, so best to stick with the P8400, and get a good fast HDD, and max out the RAM.

The P8400 is SUCH A POWERFUL CPU
I am so sick of people being like "blorb blorb lowest Montevina it must suck blorg" -
so its fine if i dont upgrade? im going to be playing stuff like team fortress 2, css, lord of the rings online, starcraft 2. Can i play all those games on max??

2.26 GHz is plenty fast.
Keep in mind the number of us who are still below the 2 GHz mark, or even on one core! -
Check out the recommended specs for each game, check whether all the games do fully utilize two cpu cores, and for playing those games on max will depend more upon the GPU, rather than the CPU. A faster CPU than the P8400, will only provide you a very small increase (barely noticeable) in fps and physics realism.

i was thinking about upgrading my cpu execpt for further down the road. i was just wondering if its the cpu is soldered in or not.

No it is not soldered....

I have a T5300 in my system, and no joke, it is really fast. Sometimes I wish I spent more to get the T7200, but really I dont need more than that in the cpu department. Tons of people I know constantly force oh you need a X9000 or whatever, when in reality you dont. A 1.6Ghz core 2 on any chipset platform has tons of power, and can do pretty much any task you throw at it otehr than heavy gaming, CAD rendering and video editing.
The P8400 is a fast cpu, and their really is no need to have more than that, if you are not doing something which is not entirely cpu dependant.
