Im looking to upgrade my lenovo T61 with the HITACHI Travelstar 7K200 HTS722020K9SA00 (0A50940) 200GB 7200 RPM SATA.

first, is this the right Hard drive for my laptop???
2nd, does this HDD come with a program to make a mirror copy of my old HDD to this new one???

would I need an extrenal HDD enclosure to make this copy?

Yes, I have upgraded my T61p with that HD and it is working fine and should work with your T61.

Second, I assume that it is the one from newegg here:
    http://www.newegg.com/product/product.aspx?Item=N82E16822145160

If so it is only the hard drive and no additional software... this is the one I bought.

I had to use the metal adaptor from my original HD that came with my laptop for the new HD.

You will need an enclosure to transfer data from your old HD to the new via firewire or USB and some sort of drive imagining software.

I bought the Hitachi 7k200 100gb 7200 RPM drive back in January for my Acer Aspire 3680..

I still have my old 5400RPM western digital HD that came with the laptop and swap it frequently to get files or music that I forgot to transfer....

The difference is night and day! The western digital literally takes 3 minutes to boot Vista. 3 minutes! I should time it and make a youtube video so everybody could see.

The new Hitachi 7k200 boots in about 40 seconds. No joke. 40 seconds= fully loaded=done. I LOVE IT. LOVE IT, LOVE IT, LOVE IT.

I think the increased spindle speed, and the 16mb cache are fantastic when teamed up on this HD. I just convinced my friend to buy the same HD for her new Acer Aspire 4315 (which came w/a Travelstar 5400rpm). This new HD is going to blow her socks off!! :D

I performed a clean install on the new HD the same day I got my laptop. Still have the original HD that I need to figure out what to do with.

There is imaging software that you can use to copy your existing drive.

I did a clean install too. Re-downloaded programs (MSN messenger, limewire, kodak software, etc.)

Burn CD's or buy a 8gb flash drive and back your stuff up then start with a nice fresh clean install of everything.
