Hi,
i bought a refurbished Gateway P-6831 FX 2 years ago and it's been running great for a year and a half, i could play Call of Duty MW2 no problem but now, heat is being a major problem for my video card, even with a cooler underneath the laptop, it reaches 107-110 degree C very quickly and it causes it to lag a lot.
any thoughts on that ? :/
thanks

Clean the heatsink with canned air or go for the full disassembly for a thorough cleaning. If that doesn't fix it, time to repaste the GPU.
-
ok i'll try that, thanks.

Don't just blow the air into the vents, that's just going to push the dust further in. Do a partial dis-assembly first and blow the air OUT, not in.

sounds like it needs copper shim. Half the time when they run that hot they use a thermal pad a mile high, and sucky thermal pads at that.

Tsunade_Hime such bacon. wow
I don't recommend copper shims unless you know what you are doing. If improperly applied, you can destroy a GPU die.

yeah well i'm not that confident in my electronics skills so i'll just try disassembling it and blowing air in it.

First disassemble and clean the laptop from the inside (heatsink, fan, place between the fan and the air vents - and the air vents themselves, plus some of the components if you see dust on them), then check the temps.
I wouldn't use the canned air really as the dust can be pushed further into the laptop.
And of course, make sure to keep the laptop OFF and the battery out while you do this.
getting slower ..
