    hi all,

i would like to know can we put this gobi cards for our routine laptops?

DELL Wireless 5620 Multi-Mode Gobi Mobile Broadband Mini-Card for Dell Inspiron / Latitude / Studio Laptops / Precision Mobile WorkStations : Networking & Routers | Dell

i think if we can install this card which runs on both EVDO and HSDPA.it will be better where we dont have wifi access routinely available.in my city ,we have much better service provider in this EVDO (tata photon ) and HSDPA access (approx. 2mbps ) by state run MTNL that given choice i will plug this card in my vaio.we just have one provider for WIFI access (tikona).

this card will work anywhere their is cellular network.
and no hassel of carrying those USB data cards.

can we use this cards in our routine laptops?

at least it will ensure me connectivity without bothering about WIFI access and it may be more secure as well.

    kindly opine.

Your laptop might not recognise the card in the wifi slot. I've tried it before on another laptop and it didn't work.
Also, it is possible that branded cards might present you with a problem.
    What Vaio do you own?
Depending on the model you might be able to buy the wwan parts from Sony if your model came with an option for built in wwan.

You would also need to have a sim card holder to use the HSDPA networks. You could try a USIM.

I don't think that you'll have much luck with this but you could try.

Even if you can get the card to be recognised there is a software problem to overcome.

Igor in the Sony forum bought a Acer unlocked Gobi card and tried to use it with the Sony software and got nowhere. I'm not sure if they resolved their problems but it seems that you need at least need to use a Sony card with the Sony software.

    This is the post.

You could try going for an Option GTM378W or a GTM382W if you can find one as you probably will have more luck with that.

No one can say it will work 100% if it hasn't be tried before on your model.
