at least the chipset has to be Intel PM45/GM45.
But also the motherboard and BIOS have to support it.
Core 2 Quad have other electrical needs than Core 2 Duos!

thx guys, but I was actually hoping to have a compatible model list......
seeing how hard it is to get info even on this little nice cpu
And also just curious, how much can this go around here? I have a dell i7 studio xps already~don't really need it, but it wouldn't hurt to get a dedicate bedroom for around 200USD.

    Cheers

You can't sell it here. Its ES.

There aren't really any models that you can still buy today, so there's not that much point. There is definitely a lot of info out there. Everything that supported the qx9300 so actually I guess there are still some models around in Dell and Lenovo outlets.

Dell m4400, nice laptop, m6400, highly upgradeable, Lenovo w500 and w700.

These are business notebooks. Consumer gaming/high performance laptops have more motherboard revisions, so there aren't as many.
Some of them will definitely support quads tho:
    Dell/Alienware M17x r1
    Alienware/Arima w840di
    MSI gx720, gt725, gt729, ms-1722, AKA e7235 and some stuff like that...
    MSI gt628, gx623
    Clevo m980nu, Sager np9850

These models have multiple motherboard revisions:
    MSI gx620, gt627
    Clevo m860tu, m570tu
    Also
    HP 8530w, 8730w I think.

Unfortunately it can be hard to find something affordable and worth it.

This is not bad but it doesn't come with any parts but the graphics card and LCD.

If you just want something simple and cheaper than this, I have a laptop I can sell you. It doesn't have any lid/LCD assembly, so you'd have to use it as an HTPC or a portable desktop computer. It has both HDMI and VGA.

Its an MSI gt627 with the correct motherboard revision, I have a q9200 that is tested 100% working. I could sell you the laptop with a graphics card and 4gb RAM for 350$ or so.
