I just bought a used Gateway mx64543 in great condition, but no hard drive or hd caddy. my pc has the AMD Turion 64x2 at 1.6ghz with 2g memory. Can anyone tell me which hard drive would be best for a decent price? THANKS!!

Thanks for the info,i'm not too pc litterate! Would not that be a little overkill for my setup? Why would that be better than, say, a 5400rpm 160 gb? i appreciate you time, thanks

Don't think only of your current system/setup. Think also of your time that you will be taking to complete this component changeover (HDD's are very time consuming - assuming you will do it properly with a clean install).

The difference from a 160GB 5400 RPM HDD (circa 2007?...) will be effectively double the performance. For about $30-$40 premium over a 'standard' HDD, you will get much more in return (performance-wise).

Especially if you partition the 750GB HDD properly (search for Partitioning for Performance and my nickname, here).

    Good luck.

No, if it is PATA - a SATA HDD would not work.

I tried googling your system but the only hit I get is your first post here. :)

How do you know it's PATA? Could you provide a picture of the connector?

Buddy,i don't understand 20% of that stuff in the review, but i am smart enough to know that this is the only drive i would go with.My other pc was an old hp /compaq 8000 with a 40 g hard drive and almost no processor or memory. with this pc and hard drive it will seem to me supersonic compared to what i am used to! Thanks a million for the great advice! funny,i got this mx6453 off craigslist for 40.00 minus the hard drive.

The Samsung is a good choice and so are WD BEVE models.
