i have a hard drive with a western digital 7200 rpm drive. whenever my computer comes out of sleep there is a thunk sound that comes from the hard drive. it only makes the sound when you come out of sleep and the hd comes out of park. its done this since the day i got the drive. is it normal ? its weird my mac has the same drive and this noise doesnt happen. only in the windows machine

FYI Mac and Windows uses the same harddrive there is no special drive for Macs.
You can probably adjust acoustics using Hitachi Drive Fitness Tool.
Other than that if a Disk Scanning utility from the drive manufacturer reports all is well then all is well. -
i will check into the western digital 2.5 black disk utility. it doesnt say it has windows 7 support though so i am unsure if it is safe or will even work

There is 2 version of the tool. Windows and DOS I find the DOS version much more effective.
