Why can't manufacturers make hard drives over 160gb with 5400rpm. It seems that if you get a 320 hd they split the hard drive in two to keep the rpm at 5400.

um... do mean the platter size instead of HDD size? in order to increase the size on each platter, greater density is needed. Newer 3.5 HDD from Hitachi and Seagate do have a platter size of 250gb instead of 160gb.

160gb platter size usually offer capacity in 160gb, 320gb.... order
    250gb platter size goes in 250gb, 500gb, 750gb order

Aftermarket hd over 160gb I see have 5400rpm. Go to Dell, HP, Toshiba websites and find a notebook from the factory with a HD over 160gb with a 5400rpm all come with 4200 rpm
