    1) PS3 looks like it uses a standard 2.5" SATA drive ( http://www.gamersreports.com/article/43/) so there's no reason that 160GB 2.5" SATA drive won't work.

    2) I believe this one is a 3.5" SATA drive (the alternate picture itself shows a 3.5" SATA drive) and therefore cannot be used in laptops.

    Yes. There are definitely 500GB 2.5" SATA drives on the market, but they're just not that easy to find yet.

    500GB 2.5" HDDs were announced, but are not yet shipping. I think Hitachi said March for theirs, which is a thicker-than-normal 1/2" (12.7mm) while Samsung promised a 500GB normal thickness for mid-year.
