Normally, I prefer Seagate over WD...but the 16mb cache will make a difference if you plan on using this as your main hard drive.

I think very highly of Seagates and not-so-highly of WD.
I would recommend Seagate over WD any day, but it is true that WD's 16mb cache will make a noticable difference over Segate's 8mb.
So here you're looking at speed vs reliability.

Seagate, in my not so humble opinion, has struck the perfect balance between speed, thermals, noise, and reliability. Others will be faster, and some will be quieter and cooler. Nothing, in my mind, will be as reliable on average.

The only time I'd stray from Seagate is a Toshiba 2.5" or a Maxtor or Hitachi SCSI. I would NEVER buy an ATA Maxtor, but their SCSI division is still essentially Quantum from the days of yor. Oddly enough, Maxtor is now Seagate, but Seagate has vowed to keep the companies segregated. Maybe they'll cause an improvement in quality, but I'm nowhere near willing to trust those heaps of magnetic junk they call hard drives yet.
