CPU-Z will tell you your RAM and maybe even tell you which stick is not reporting. Let me look more.

Some laptops are not going to see all 4GB even with a 64bit OS...it has to do with hardware limitations. If some of your RAM wasn't working, none of your RAM would be working.

If some of your ram wasen't working(asumming you have 2*2GB sticks), it would show up as 2GB(one stick is faulty) or none at all(both sticks are faulty).

So I guess tell us your notebook, maybe figure what is going on?

Edit: and tell us exactly what OS.

He's got XP-64. There is only one version of that.

Go ahead and run CPU-Z, I'm pretty sure you'll find the chipset has a 4GB addressing limit...which is why you still cannot see all 4GB of RAM with a 64bit OS. Some of that address space is still being borrowed for hardware addressing.

Not necessarily, but it should show up as missing at boot-up by the BIOS.
