    Hi all,

I'm from india & this is in specifications for dell laptops sold in the Indian Market.

i'm interested to buy the inspiron 1501 introduced recently. It uses an AMD with 512 KB l2 Cache while Intel dual Core uses 2 MB l2 cache now this is really confusing. the dell executive told me to go in for AMD than a dual core.
He said the l1 chaches in AMD are higher than in Intel & above all AMD will offer excellent graphics i.e. ATI

    ATI Radeon(R) Xpress 1150 256MB HyperMemoryTM (integrated) - AMD
Intel(R) Media Accelerator 950 Graphics Up to 224MB shared system memory - INTEL

What is your suggesition. He says that AMD will offer a good graphics than Intel Dual core does. the difference is only of Indian Rupees 3000 between both.

Rest remains same in both i.e. 80 GB HDD, 512 RAM, 15.4" LCD, ethernet, wifi, 8X dvd writer.

    kindly suggest something.

    Regards

I'd take a look at the e1505 with the X1400 if the graphics card is of concern. That's more powerful than both cards mentioned.

The 950 will not match the performance of that 1150 card, but both are integrated cards a fairly weak for gaming.

As for the cache, the AMD designs do not need much...so they don't include it. The Core 2, however, loves to have a lot of cache to boost it's performance.

BTW, that guy is an idiot if he told you the processor (Core 2, AMD) is what determines how good your gaming experiences are...it's the graphics card (1150, GMA950, X1400) that matters.

What night_2004 wrote is correct. AMD processors do not rely on Cache memory as much as Intel.

The AMD HyperTransport bus eliminates bottleneck and provides faster performance.

It's also correct that AMD CPU's have a bigger L1 cache (which is generally more beneficial)

But overall, a Core 2 cpu is faster than anything from AMD. It's also more expensive, and as said above, the CPU isn't as important as the GPU for gaming
