im looking to buy a laptop, and ive been looking at the
ASUS n80vn-gp011c
and
ASUS n80vn-x1/A1
the main difference between the two is the processor
the gp011c. 2.4 p8600 for 1,149.99
the x1/a1. 2.0 t5800 899.99
(taken from newegg.com)
there is also a $200 cashback if i buy the laptop on ebay through live.com,
yes the gp011c will go down to about 900 but paying 700 for the x1/a1 would be a plus IF there isnt that big of a difference in performance.
im looking to play some games with the laptop. also some AUTOCAD work.
will there be a big difference in performance between the two?
thnx in advance.
ps.if you guys have any other suggestions for laptops that are in the price range and are 13"-14.1" id be happy to hear.
some specs for both
geforce 9650m gt 1gb vram
4gb DDR2.
14.1"

If you are doing autocad, you will be most likely doing 3d cad as well, which means renders. When rendering you want the most cpu power you can get.
In this case the P8600 would be the better choice since it has a 400Mhz faster clock speed per core, a faster front side bus 1066Mhz versus 800Mhz, and it has more cache 3mb versus 2mb. The P8600 will also run cooler since it is based on new process technology.
If the cpu difference is worth the $200 or so difference to you, than go worth the faster one.
Both are still very powerful processors, the P8600 is just that much better. Probably about 20% faster.

get the p8600 FTW

Check out the review in my sig - I have the P8600 version (N80vn-GP011c), with lots of details, some benchmarks, and pictures.
Also - better processor will affect actual number-crunching for mathematical formulas, etc. Not 100% familiar with AutoCad's processing, so I don't know if it would be more GPU or CPU. -
alright thanks guys, and zmatin for the review
just wna make the right purchase =]
any more insight or other possibilities would be much appreciated -
do you have any choices like for harddrive capacity/speed?
If you do, go for a 320gb 7200rpm drive, as they would give the best harddrive performance.

definately go with the P8600. Faster, cooler and uses less power
It really does not get much better than that...unless you add another $200 to step up to the P9600 which is based on the P8600's technology but with more cache and higher clock.

Get the p8600 by far. Its faster and uses less power. I have a t5800 its not bad but i want to upgrade it.
help t5800 v p8600
