You can probably do so, but wouldn't be the songs be on your computer? Assuming you use iTunes and dock your iPod to your computer to charge.

Have you taken the iPod to an Apple store yet? Have one of the geniuses there look at it and get their suggestions before doing anything. I've never heard of a 'fried' iPod.

1. seeing as _ow a an iPod is not_ing more t_an a _ard drive wit_ some firmware on top, it's _ard to see _ow it can be "fried" unless you mean t_e _ard drive failed.
2. you want your music back? isn't it already on your computer?
3. since you _aven't really given any details on w_at's wrong wit_ your iPod, t_ere's no way to _elp you. -
well my music wasnt on my computer i kept it all on my ipod(stupid me). the ipod just stopped working oneday it wouldnt come on ,no apple sign nothing.

Sounds like the same thing that happened to my daughter's old Ipod. A total blank screen, no caution sign or sick ipod sign, just blank. Unfortunately, the only way I could fix it was to restore it. But by doing that, it erases all the songs. Not what you want.
Let it charge for awhile then keep trying to reset it (as shown on the ipod support page). I had to play with this ipod for almost an hour before I got any type of response from it. -
Have you tried to reset it? If the hard drive isn't shot, you may be able to get it working by resetting the machine. Don't remember the exact procedure - it'll be in your manual - but IIRC, you hold the center and the menu buttons down at the same time for 15 seconds (according to the book). However, the last time I tried it, at least a year ago, it took closer to a minute to work.
If your iPod's drive is making strange noises, the drive is probably shot. -
Try going into diagnostic mode: http://www.methodshop.com/gadgets/ipodsupport/diagnosticmode/index.shtml
During that mode....it ll run several tests & the screen should change colours rapidly.
