right now I have an HP DV1000 and the dvd lightscribe drive is inoperable, as in it doesn't burn, read, now recognize any discs that I put in there. My question is, can I take a dvd lightscribe drive from a Compaq v2000 notebook and directly install it into this computer?
if so, can you guys provide me with instructions on how to?? sorry, this is my first time (if this is even possible) taking a notebook apart so i'm kinda nervous about this... :(
thanks in advance for your help!!

What happens when you put in a disc?

when i put in a disc, the drive just spins intermittently, unable to read and after a while, i try to "open" the drive and it asks me to insert a disc, even though one is already in there. i'm really hoping that just switching out the drives will be an available fix...

If it is still under warranty, HP will send you a new drive.
