I've stepped on my crappy but trusty Medion MD 98300 15.4" laptop and now the screen needs replacing.

Now I hear that Medion just rebadge other people work (the Damian Hurst of the laptop world I guess) so I'm just wondering what screens are compatible.

I've seen other medion screens on ebay at a good price but will other models fit mine?

Or will a screen from adifferent company fit it seeing as they badge other peoples tech?

Any help would be much appreciated.

Well if your screen is dead, you need to replace it, which means you will have to remove the current LCD from the notebook.
Please take the li of your laptop apart, and remove the lcd carefully. If the lcd is splintering, put some packaging tape over the screen, so that the pieces of teh screen do not get all over the place
Your goal is to remove the LCD panel.
On the back of the LCD, their is a sticker which says the manufacturer name and model of your LCD.
Please post the model of your screen, and we can tell you if there are any other screens you can use.

    ok, I will do.

The reason I haven't done it yet is that it started off small and has slowly gotten worse and now I can only use half the screen.

You probably shouldnt continue to use the screen, if the screen is shattered. You could short the rest of the screen, the backlight or the inverter.

Its good that the system still runs. It would suck to replace the screen, to find out something else was also damaged from stepping on it.

The screws which hold the two halves of the lid together are located under the rubber pieces around the screen.

    hey, just removed the screen.

It's made by LG/Philips and there's a shed load of numbers on the thing.

On the sticker with the LG/Philips there's the code LP154W01

I'm guessing this is the model number and it stands for LG/Philps 15.4" wide screen as that is what it is.

So is this the only screen I can get or are others compatible? Seems a bit limiting if you can only get one type of screen.

    Cheers

thanks for all the help so far. I'm unsure about higher res as that means tiny text doesn't it? What you reckon? I've seen some models on ebay. I'm from UK and they seem to be aroung £60 which I think is around $100 these days.

Also unsure about matte or glossy. Have matte now. Hear glossy is bright but like a mirror.
