It'll take highier end memory.. but it'll make no difference. You'll just waste money. As long as the memory works, it'll have the same performance as higher memory.

So the only way to really make it faster is add more,or upgrade the processor?

I suppose upgrading to 4gig of ram would make a little difference since you've already upgraded your hdd.

Randall, upgrading to faster memory will show no performance upgrade for you. You already have 4GB, PC6400, which is basically the fastest memory our system can run.
Your only upgrade is to go 64 bit to get full use out of the 4gb of memory you have

IF, and only if you can find it at a good price, you could get ram that is timed out at 5-5-5-18 (400Mz) or even better 4-4-4-12. The performance gain over 6-6-6-18 will be marginal. Buying memory with faster memory is the kind of thing you do when you've done everything else. If your machine supports dual channel make sure the memory does too.

Very few systems are cpu bound. Hard Drive and memory are the things to upgrade. Sometimes the chipset on the laptop mobo is just plain slow, nothing you can do about that.

Memory upgrades are not a very cost effective solution to improving over all system performance aside from the RAM upgrade maybe..

Not sure where you are buying your memory, but a 4gb kit only costs around $40. The memory upgrades are usually always the best bang for the buck upgrade prior to hard drive and then processor upgrades

Is 8GB really necessary for you?
