Hey my buddy just got a great deal locally on 2x 250gb Seagate 5400.4 Sata Drives. How well built are these drives?? He is going to throw them into his laptop in a raid 0 setup??

They are pretty decent harddrives. However seagates are known to have spin retry errors picked up in the smart readings. This is not a fatal problem, its just a few of seagates acoustical benefactors causes the drive to respawn every once in a while resulting in a click and a respawn.

What kind of laptop does your friend have?
There are a bunch of laptops which can fit two harddrives, but do not have the option of raid.

he has the Gateway FX laptop. He is taking out the 250gb drive in there and using it as an external drive.

Okay, then your friend will be able to utilize the raid feature.
