I have an older thinkpad t23 and recently it has not been booting up.

The light on the screen turns on but nothing comes up. Also, it is unresponsive to the button which turns the light off on the monitor. When i shut it, the light is still on. The fan spins and makes an intermittent noise like fast then slow fast then slow consistently.
I haven't dropped it or dropped anything on it so i'm thinking it may be the harddrive?

not sure, but any suggestions are greatly appreciated.

Sounds more like processor or mobo.

I can't say for sure, but usually there is some video that displays (memory, Bios version, etc.) before the HD even starts to show up.

If you aren't even seeing that, you probably have problems before the HD.

Other suggestions would be to try to install the HD as a slave in another computer and see if you can read data off it. Be careful with this, though - the best option (if the laptop drive is (Was?) FAT 32 and not NTFS is to disconnect the primary drive in the other computer, install the possibly bad drive and then try to boot into Knoppix (linux on CD).
