That looks ugly. But unfortunately light leakage is pretty common and there are chances you might get a worse screen than this but if it distracts you then it might be worth trying for an exchange. In the past Dell has replaced screens which had leakage issues.

As for as the company behind the LCD, dont worry too much about it. Its just a by product of the outsourcing of manufacturing. CPT are a subsidiary of Tatung who are owned by ECS(motherboard manufacturer). A well known name doesnt gurantee good quality, for example a couple of years ago Samsung panels had issues with leakage and poor contrast/brightness.

the only times i can tell are when its a totally black screen or when playing a widescreen dvd or similar. someone else told me dell sent them 3 different screens and they were all worse then his original one..

and ive seen here on the forum now a lg and samsung that appear worse than mine.. i guess im out of luck.

is this common among all notebook manufactures or is dell one of the worse ones with this issue?? we own over 8 toshibas and none have this issue anywhere near this same level they show a small tiny amount but not like this..

It is common but the extent of the leakage varies from one screen to another. People might have 2 screens of the same make/model yet have different amounts of leakage. Dell does seem to be more prone to issues with their LCD's although they do sell a lot of notebooks and probably a small percentage actually have issues but then again even HP sells large numbers but from what I have seen in the past 3 years in the forums more Dell systems seem to have leakage issues than HP systems.

Sony/Fujitsu/Toshiba Qosmio LCD's seem to be the best in terms of leakage and quality. But you do pay the extra price compared to Dell to get that quality...

Well, its up to you since you will be one looking at the screen. It should be OK for general use but its going to look bad especially in dark scenes in movies and probably some games. If it were me I would try for an exchange and hope for the best.
