I want to order 2, 256gb ssd and configure them into raid 0 on my notebook and make it my primary boot drive. I just want to transfer my existing system onto the new drives. Anyone have specific instructions on how to do this? I am using windows 7 home premium if that matters, and i want raid 0 because i want the extra disk space. i will create system backups onto my larger hdd.

You will have to do a clean install with a RAID setup. Drivers and Windows will configure everything properly with a clean install.

good point... i guess i will look into a 512gb msata. if i can get one under $400 from a reputable company I will probably do that instead. it didnt cross my mind because the sites i was shopping on didn't carry anything over a 256gb.

When I was going to put a large size SSD into my Alienware, I looked at 2 x 256 and 1 x 512 GB, and I found the 512 GB only barely more expensive than the 2 x 256 GB (Samsung 840 series, non-Pro), and I could have the space for another large mechanical drive or whatever. I had RAID 0 160 GB Intel 320 series SSDs, oddly that array died, hence I had to buy new SSDs.

I found a crucial 480ssd for $360 perhaps I will just go with that. it will save me some headaches and $40 at the expense of 32gb but its probably worth it. not to mention it will leave me an extra msata slot for future expansion if i need it

Good choice. Although I would still do a clean install.
