i just recently got this qosimo x505 and it came with a 500gb 7200rpm sata drive and it also has the 2nd space for another hdd so i had another 500gb 7200rpm drive that is the same as the one already in the laptop. i installed the 2nd one

but i was wondering is there a way to optimize running dual hdd? if so how do i do it?

Depends what you want to 'optimize' it for.

What kind of use will this notebook see? (Be as specific as you can).

For the photo/video editing, you definitely want the 8GB of RAM inside.

As to the HDD's, yeah - you need them properly setup so not only do you get good performance initially - but you'll sustain that performance with a minimum of work involved.

This is what I would do:

    See:

Also, this part starts talking about a dual drive setup specifically:

    See:

What 'finishes' this setup is the use of PerfectDisk Professional 11 so that after each 'job' or 'project' is completed, the system is brought back up quickly to a 'fresh' state ready for the next job.

    See:
    http://forum.notebookreview.com/har...-c-b-defrag-c-x-defraggler-perfectdisk10.html

An executive overview of what is accomplished with the above partitioning strategies:

Is that you are reading from one physical drive and writing to another while you're editing - instead of within a single drive or between two partitions on the same drive. This maximizes the storage subsystem.

With PerfectDisk, we are not only taking care of fragmented files - more importantly we are defragmenting the free space which Windows needs to operate at full tilt. Moreover, with the algorithm PD uses, each defragmentation run moves the least amount of files needed to achieve our goal (defragmented free space), because the files are placed optimally to begin with.

Hope this gives you a sense of what you should be striving for - if you want maximum, sustained performance from your dual HDD's.

    Good luck.
