    hey,

I have an inspiron 1420 with a geforce 8400 gs. The laptop resolution is 1280X800.

I bought a vga cable and connected it to my tv. The tv's native resolution is 1366 x 768. I want to know if there is anyway i can get that to display on my tv. Currently it shows my tv at 1024*768

When you go to graphics settings, you have to select the box which has a number "2" in it, then just change the slider in the window, and you will be able to change the resolution output to your television.

If your right click the desktop in Vista, its in the personalize settings

Right click on desktop -> Personlalize -> Display Settings -> Toggle the resolution slider. And make sure you're on the 2nd monitor. Not your laptop.

You need to go into NVIDIA Control Panel and to the "Set up multiple displays" tab. If you are using the laptop screen and the TV, you need to use Dualview, not clone, and make whichever screen you want to have be the primary the primary display. If you are using just the TV, select "single display" and then set your TV as the display. Then click on the "custom resolution" tab (close to where the multiple displays tab is) and change your resolution and refresh rate to 1366x768 and 60 Hz. Then, you should be all set.

I've got the same problem on the 8400M GS on my Dell Vostro 1400. When I connect it to the TV however, I don't see the "Custom Resolutions" tab in the NVIDIA Control Panel I've connected it through a VGA cable, and it comes up in the CP as an "Analogue Display".

Alternatively, many TVs support a number of resolutions other than native. You may have to adjust your TV settings to show the image on screen correctly.

I know that it supports other resolutions, but the native would be the best because I wouldn't have any black borders or a stretched image.
Does is matter that I'm using Vista 32bit?

It might require some kind of hack. TVs are less than great as far as sending the correct signals as to what resolutions they accept.

It shouldn't need a hack though, I should be able to make a custom resolution in the NVIDIA CP, but the option isn't there...
