Wanting to change processor. Wanting to change video card if possible. Wanting to get 4gb ram. Wanting 64 bit os. All with 667mhz.
I'm pretty much computer dumb. So any help would be greatly welcomed!!
I'm looking at the intel t7200 for cpu. Video I have no clue. Mem will be a lot easier to decifer. Just want 3 to 4gb.
Going from t2500 to t7200 is just a couple watts diff. So heat my be a little problem? Don't know much about sockets m,p,478,479, etc. Don't know anything about overclocking. Or how that works.
Video is another concern. Is nvidia go 7600 upgrade able? Or can this card be changed out?
Question after question I'm sure full of them.
Any suggestions other than buying a new $3k system?
Thanks
David

I believe they only made the T7200 in one socket type, so that shouldn't be a problem. Here's a link to a good priced T7200: Intel Core 2 Duo T7200 2.0Ghz 4M 667 Laptop CPU SL9SF - eBay (item 130425490930 end time Sep-26-10 14:21:24 PDT)
As for ram: 4GB 2x2GB DDR2 PC2-5300 Hynix Laptop Memory Ram - eBay (item 320582300911 end time Sep-26-10 16:34:02 PDT)
As for video card, it is not upgradeable. -

If want a performance upgrade recommend a SSD - normally your hard drive is one of the bottlenecks. The SSD eliminates that. Best upgrade I've done to my Sony systems.

I was wondering about that. Had thought about upping to 2x320 or 2x500. Getting away from the 54 or is it 5200 rpm. And going up to 7400 or a pair 10000rpm. Is it possible to mix and match a ssd with a regular hd? Would a ssd fit in the hd bay? Money is kind of tight. I could do the t7200 and mem for about the same price as a smaller ssd. Would have to keep one of the old drives in place.
Will probably go with the cpu and mem first. Let the ssd,s come down a bit. And just leave the 2x100 5200rpm's in place.
Now I'm using a sony vaio pcg f-480, p3, 256k, and 12 gig hard drive. Any and every way is up for me.
Thank you very much

An SSD will boost your boot time and lessen app opening time. It may not be worth it though to put an SSD in your laptop, SSD's w TRIM are like $200, and only around 120GB.

Thank you joker and h.a.l. 9000.
But h.a.l. 9000. What the heck is PEBKAC????? And isn't sata the type of hard drive. As far as 1.5, does this have a physical restriction on rpm, or gb size of the 2 hard drives? Or is it the transfer rate at which it reads and writes to and from the hd? To my knowledge they spin at 5400rpm(per joker).
Thanks again

In all honesty, for the price and effort of upgrading you could buy a new, better laptop for a similar price

Thanks to all.
Paid 250 for the 190 ar. With all of the info everybody has tossed my way 2-3 hundred more still in my opinion cheaper than a new one. Besides I don't play a whole lot of games. Main use will be for digital photo's and vids. Some surfing. Light cad work and miss other stuff.
Still waiting to recieve said unit.
Thanks again
