i've been hearing that since the C2D doesn't have macrofusion or something like that that it's not good at running 64 bit

does anyone know if the C2D runs faster on 32 bit or 64 bit?

or can anyone provide some links to shed some like onto this matter?

    Thanks

Can you provide any links to where you are hearing that?

I think you're referring to a feature called Macro-Ops Fusion. This is implemented in both desktop (Conroe) and laptop (Merom) Core 2 Duo processors, and basically what it does is combine certain bunches of instructions in order to process them in a single cycle - this makes the processor run faster. It is not related to the processor's ability to run 64-bit applications.

The Core 2 Duo has EM64T support - it is this feature that allows it to run 64-bit applications. Excepting a few unique instructions it is the same as AMD's 64-bit instruction set, and Microsoft's 64-bit (x64) OSes will run on both brands of processors.

It runs faster in 64 bit but it doesn't gain as much performance going from 32 bit to 64 bit as the amd 64's. the C2d's still hold the performance crown in 64 bit though

Actually, it is related. Core 2 is unable to perform Macro-ops fusion in 64-bit mode. (XBitLabs and a few other sites have reported on this, and Intel's documentation confirms it)
However, it's usually not a big deal. It means a few percent performance loss, which is compensated for by the couple of things that are more efficient in 64-bit mode.

Overall, it works fine in 64-bit mode, although the performance boost it gets from 64-bit mode is less than what an Athlon 64 gets, it still ends up with great performance.
