    You have DDR2 533 MHz SO-DIMMs
There is a thread somewhere for good deals on laptop ram. Look for it. If you are using an x86 based OS, don't get 4 gigs of ram. You will only see 3.x gigs due to software limitations. Go x64 and you can actually use all 4 gigs. Also, buy a matched pair of ram.

Yes look in the Hot Ram deals thread for great ram prices. You cant use 4gb of ram becuase of a chipset issue and you need a 64bit OS.

You should have 2 slots for ram underneath your notebook. Depending on how you want to upgrade you might have to take out both the sticks or ram .

ok one more question real quick :)
how much of a performance increase do you think i would i see if i went from 1 gb to 2gb of ram

i do a lot of video editing and rendering
also will it speed up vista?

and thanks for the quick replys :)

EDIT: oh and on newegg there are sticks of ram that are labeled 5300 4200 etc... what kind do i need?
and do i need ddr2? and does pin type matter?

    Lets see,

    Google:

    notebookreview search:

    CPU-Z

Remember google is you best friend...

As far as type, kingston, OCZ, crucial, patriot... any of these are good. Try looking at newegg, any of the brands they have should be good. But as for price look to Ram Deals

Yes 2gb should defiantly increase performance in rendering/editing and in Vista.

Look for PC2-4200/4300(they are the same thing). If you get a PC2-5300/5400(DDR-667) it will downclock its self to 533mhz.

why would it downclock to 533 mhz?

He has the 1.73GHz Core Duo T2250 which has a 533MHz front side bus.

You will see a big improvement in performance going to 2GB of memory. Well worth the upgrade. Remember, upgrading the RAM is the cheapest way of increasing performance.

Ok, I didn't see that. Not that it makes a big difference but, would 533 MHz ram w/ CAS latency of 4 be faster or slower than 667 MHz ram w/ CAS latency of 5?

Actually the performance would be almost identical. We've done some tests before on this site and we were able to conclude that despite the fact that 667MHz memory runs at a higher frequency, the higher CAS latency is what kills it. 533MHz @ CL4 = 667MHz @ CL5.
