i'd like to know if i could carry out the following aftermarket upgrades to my machine :

    1.swap t5200 c2d for a quadcore processor preferably 2.2 ghz
    2.swap 1 gb ddr2 ram for 2gb ddr3 (800mhz) or ddr2
3.swap nvidia 7400 geforce for nvidia 8800gtx card
    4.swap 120gb hdd 5400 rpm for 160 gb hdd 7200 rpm

are these upgrades possible ! if yes do they require some more purchases to support them !

    1) No, no mobile quad core exists.
    2) Only can use DDR2-667 or slower RAM
    3) No, your laptop GPU can never be upgraded.
    4) Piece of cake.

Only the 64bit version. 32bit versions will be limited the usable the amount of RAM to ~3GB.

    Nope...no 32bit OS can use 4GB. You'll get about 3.2-3.5GB though.

No 32bit OS can support (make use) 4GB of RAM 2^32=4GB, that is the maximum addressable memory. Problem is other system components need to use some of these so there is never the full 4GB available for RAM. You need 64bit OS 2^64=16 exabytes(17.2 billion gigabytes) but Windows only allows 8GB's I think. If XP sp3 is like Vista sp2 it will not be able to support 4GB but will show you have 4GB installed. In other words no difference.

If all your upgrades were possible I would guess over $2,000. So Why not just buy a new one anyway?

Honestly, if you are looking for solid quad core performance and an 8800GTX, you need a freaking desktop :D. It will cost less, and perform better...and from the sounds of it that is what you are looking for.
