I don't know how is the mounting of this motherboard and if there's enough space, but MXM-B could work.

it looks to just off the side to eliminating size it looks like both A and B should fit. just didn't know if there was to see if there is a bios limitation.

if there is way to do a PLL unlock and volt mod this thing would be PERFECT fora suit case computer, drop in a MXM CPU and desktop CPU and nudge the clocks. if it could be done a budget awesome but, i have a feeling a good Mobile cpu could best whatever desktop CPUs that board supports.

If not though you could throw in a mechanical keyboard and some 10watt TV speakers and VA panel and you'd have one happening suitcase computer. :p :D

    EDIT:

sandy bridge quad!!! so maybe that could make a decent portable computer or do they have equal or better laptop CPUs now? do they PCIe to MXM A/B adapters that are usable?

It would be a nice project. Not of the most portable ones, but nice none the less. I wont say that mobile CPUs are that much better. I mean they are fine and nice on stock clocks, but who's running stock, right? Once you clock, the power requirements are more or less the same as relatively clocked desktop CPU. Not to mention expensive as hell. Why would you need PCIe to MXM 3? Or you meant the opposite MXM 3 to PCIe? If so, I'm not aware of such thing in existence. There was/is such project in the eGPU section here, but I haven't read if there is an advancement recently.

cause then you could use an matx or itx motherboard but, ave the small space of a MXM gpu. then again you could do a pcie ribbon cable but, then again you'd need a full sized power supply.

Firstly - those adapters (PCIe to MXM) are pretty expensive and sold in quantities of more than 10. Secondly - how would you benefit of such adapter with the motherboard in question? You already have an MXM slot. As for small GPUs, there are such things. One of them is the Radeon 285 ITX and it wont break the bank, unlike the MXMs.

cdoublejj, what's the point? It will cost a lot to build unless you have everything lying around... only to be raped by new tech. =\

now you could use any motherboard of your choice such as desktop ITX motherboards and keep the wattage thermal foot print of MXM, only an idea nothing more.

actually 35 bucks shipped for this mobos, some money for used cpu and ram and i do have a spare GPU but, it's low end but, could work a till kick ass GPU was bought. i have all sorts of desktop parts and heat sinks and strange odds and ends. i think it could be done REAL cheap. Ultimately it's an idea but, the more i think about i''m probably not short that many parts.
