    hey guys im currently working on this desktop tryin to figure out which would be a better upgrade for this computer it will max out at 4 gig of ram but i dont think their would be a noticeable difference in performance, i would like others input as well which would be better increaseing the ram or dropping a quad four board in to it thanks in advance guys and gals

    I mean you have to ask yourself is it worth upgrading such an old computer? You could go with an Opt 180 in that system, but those are 200+ dollars.

    i understand that but its a friend of mines computer and i did reccomend a quad core i suggested it cuz its easier to upgrade a desktop than it isa notebook

    I do not believe there are any Socket 939 quad cores. You are probably looking for an Opeteron and Athlon FX

    Forget the cpu upgrade.

    Clean install Win7x64 and put in 4GB RAM on a new (current model) HD like the WD Scorpio Black 500GB WD5001AALS ($60) or the WD Scorpio Black 1TB WD1002FAEX ($85).

    Running even Windows XP on 1GB RAM (with a fully updated O/S) is simply torture.
