Hey all, hp pavilion dm4 1165dx, pretty sure the motherboard is fried from water damage, nothing happens when i plug it in no fans, HDD movement. i want to replace the MB but im worried if something is bad it might fry to new board my question

What or how do i know what boards are compatible if i want an upgraded version?
should i replace anything else just encase?
should i not replace the board unless im going to replace everything? prob is im in school and broke

Thanks for any and all assistance.

Type "dm4-1000 motherboard" into ebay's search engine and find one.

Any dm4 1xxx series board will work.

HP's dm series all had soldered CPUs. If a certain model offered an i7, you would need to order that specific motherboard, assuming you can still find it.

You can find service manual in HP support website, it has listed all the part numbers that fit your laptop.
In general soldered CPU means that replacement motherboards are rather expensive.

Yeah, it might be a better idea to just get a new laptop for the price of the new motherboard...
