    Hi,
This is my first post on this forum. I have an hp G62-457DX laptop. I would like to replace the Top Cover Assembly (chassis/palmrest/touchpad, etc.). The HP part number is 595206-001. This part has an integrated touchpad with a textured surface. There is nothing actually wrong with the part, I just don't like it and think it would be fun/challenging to replace it. I am wondering if there are any other replacement parts that are compatible with it. I want to replace it with a compatible palmrest that either does not have an "integrated" touch pad and/or is not "textured". I assume there are other very similar compaq/hp laptop models that have similar components but I can't figure out hp's part numbering system to save my life. Any help that can provide would be most appreciated. Thanks.

Oh, man, I don't think you'll be able to fit anything else, unless there's a model without the textured palm rest... Even if there are other similar parts, they're most likely different on the inside, so it wouldn't fit without extensive modifications. I don't know much about the G62, though...

Lol I figured as much. Thanks anyway. I'll probably just spend 30 or 40 bucks on a usb adesso touch pad if that's the case. Guess laptops are a whole different ballgame than tower mods :)

There's just too little space inside and the parts are very specific, although I'm guessing it'll be easier in the future using Shapeways and other similar services to create custom parts...

So 8 months later, I solved my own problem. I found the website laptoppartsexpert.com. I googled the palmrest by my model number and this site wanted to sell me one. It also listed which other laptops it was compatible with. I eventually found a compatible body part that fit what I was looking for by following this trail. If anyone is looking for "compatible" Frankenstein parts that aren't listed by your manufacturer, I'd recommend checking out this sure or any other that lists compatible models with it's parts. I was looking for parts that compatible with my laptop - instead of looking for laptops that the specific part I wanted to replace was compatible with. SOLVED!
