    hey everyone, my laptop randomly stopped recognzing my DVD-RW drive and i have no clue what to do. it wont let me update the driver or anything...any ideas??

    Look in the registry here;

    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Class\{4D36E965-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}

    delete any upperfilter (may not exist) and lowerfilter values. Reboot.

    tends to be some software that gets installed like a optical drive emulator or writing software.
